Special Education Transportation

All transportation services for GBO are provided through special transportation services as outlined in each student’s IEP and are limited to travel to and from the student’s primary residence. Pick-up and drop-off times will be communicated by the assigned transportation provider, First Student Transportation, which allows a 10-minute grace window before and after the scheduled times. For example, if a student is scheduled to be picked up at 7:30 a.m., transportation may arrive anytime between 7:20 and 7:40 a.m. Drivers will wait outside the student’s residence for no more than three minutes and will not honk or call during that window, so it is important to be prepared and on the lookout.

For general transportation requests, families should contact their student’s case manager. For immediate needs, cancellations, or changes (such as illness or appointments), families should contact First Student directly at (847) 372-3628, and it is recommended that this number be saved in mobile contacts for convenience. Please note that two full business days’ notice is required for the district office to approve any new or modified transportation requests, such as an address change.

If a student is starting or ending their day at either GBN or GBS for a class, the family is responsible for their transportation needs for that specific time.
